Raj Kapoor, the legend who shaped and crafted the art of cinema and gave Bollywood the elite status that it relishes today. On his 93rd birth anniversary, his daughter Ritu Nanda produced a book on the legendary star. The book was presented and launched by all 5 children of Raj Kapoor namely, Ritu Nanda, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rima Jain and Rajiv Kapoor.
The book is published by Harper Collins India and the launch was done in ITC Maurya Sheraton, Delhi on 14th December 2017 which marks the 93rd birth anniversary of the star.
In the words of the author, Mrs. Nanda, this biography is also partially autobiography from video logs of Late Shri Raj Kapoor and he has been quoted unedited and untranslated in the purest form of his words. The author went to extensive research and tried to connect to each and every person whose life was touched by Mr. Kapoor.
The event began with a heartfelt remembrance of Late Shri Shashi Kapoor through a short speech given by Rishi Kapoor for his uncle. He also started the speech in the way Shashi Kapoor used to introduce himself. The audience and the guests took a minute of silence to honor the departed soul, who passed away earlier this month.
The Kapoor children after a cake cutting ceremony for their father, also shared their own experiences and lessons they each got from their father, while also expressing the love and attraction they got while traveling across countries like Russia, then USSR and other south Asian countries for the movies their father made. They also quoted themselves as easy to recognize Fat Family and how they were treated with respect and fine things because of the love the entire world shared for their father.
The event moved along with a video presentation with excerpts from the book and video logs of Mr. Kapoor talking about his movies, his ideologies, his heroines among other life experiences. The video was collated and beautifully presented by the publisher.
The event was graced by the elite of the Bollywood industry including the Bachchan family, Jaya Bachchan attended the event with her daughter who is married to the Nanda family and a video of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was shown on the publisher expressing his gratitude for Raj Kapoor and appreciation for his work. He also expressed his apologies for not being there for the event as he was busy shooting for a movie in Thailand.
In the end, the younger of all siblings, Mr. Rajiv Kapoor gave away a complimentary copy of the book signed by the author Ritu Nanda and himself to everyone from the audience and we were more than delighted to see this kind gesture from him.
So we grabbed our copies, clicked a few pictures and can’t wait to find more about the life of the legend Mr. Raj Kapoor in the book.
